Star Wars: Galactic Racer stepped onto the Summer Game Fest 2026 stage on June 5 with its most substantial showing yet - a full story trailer that put podracing front and centre and stamped October 6, 2026 on the calendar as the game's worldwide launch date across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Podracing is now official

Earlier reveals had only teased podracing as one of several vehicle classes, but the game had to date only hinted at pod racing - the SGF trailer makes it fully official, introducing the new planet Domenikos and showing extensive podracing footage alongside the confirmation that fan-favourite Dug racer Sebulba will appear in the game.

In the story, Shade does not race alone - he has a skilled Ardennian mechanic named Hibi to rely on, and can also count on the support of the legendary Sebulba, provided Shade can earn the Dug's hard-won respect.

The trailer offers a look at the single-player mode including the never-before-seen Derven Acos arena, alongside multiplayer podracing action beyond the Mos Espa Circuit.

Story and setting

The game is set in the New Republic Era, after Return of the Jedi. Races in the single-player campaign take place within the Galactic League, founded by Darius Pax in the lawless Outer Rim. The villainous racer Kestar Bool dominates the League and attempts to oust Pax from the racing business, prompting Pax to seek out Shade - a mysterious loner with a personal grudge against the Bool family - to overthrow Kestar.

The trailer delivers narration about the dangers of the Galactic Racing League alongside fast-paced racing gameplay and plenty of explosions. Much of the footage is dedicated to the shadowy underbelly of the sport, with villainous characters warning the protagonist to stay out of their way - moments punctuated by podracing scenes.

What's in the game

Vehicle variety is a key selling point - players can pilot multiple classes of repulsorcraft including podracers, landspeeders, speeder bikes, and skim speeders, each with its own handling style and tactical advantages.

Mode Details
Campaign Story-driven, runs-based single-player
Arcade Time trials and objective-based events
Multiplayer PvP races, up to 12 players, ranked system

The game includes both a single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode, with an Arcade mode offering time trials and races with varied objectives. Studio founder and CEO Matt Webster confirmed back in February that there are no plans to heavily monetize the game, describing it as a premium release with a campaign, arcade mode, and multiplayer.

Editions and pre-orders

The game launches in Standard and Deluxe editions - the Deluxe includes three exclusive speeders, three Arcade events, an N-1 starfighter livery, a player banner, and a digital art book. A physical Collector's Edition adds a speeder model, steelbook, patches, and a physical artbook. Pre-ordering any edition nets exclusive livery and a banner with colours tied to the player's platform.

The studio behind the wheel

Fuse Games, based in Guildford, has been working on Galactic Racer since the studio's founding in 2023. The team was founded by senior developers from Criterion Games, the studio behind Need for Speed and Burnout. The game was first unveiled in December 2025 with a trailer at The Game Awards. Star Wars: Galactic Racer will be only the fourth Star Wars racing game ever made, following Star Wars Episode I: Racer (1999), Star Wars: Super Bombad Racing (2001), and Star Wars Racer Revenge (2002).

Our take

A Criterion pedigree, a contact-heavy arcade-racing structure, and now confirmed podracing: Fuse Games appears to be building the Star Wars racing revival fans have waited over two decades for. October 6 cannot come soon enough.
