Monster Hunter: World, released in 2018, has surpassed 30 million units in cumulative sales worldwide, making it Capcom's best-selling single title of all time. The milestone was confirmed via Capcom's official channels and covers both the base game and the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition.
A number that keeps climbing
Capcom had previously confirmed the game was sitting at around 29.6 million units with the Master Edition, making the jump past 30 million a natural next step. Considering the company announced the game had reached 25 million units in 2024, this means it has sold an additional 5 million copies in just two years.
The fact that an eight-year-old title has added figures equivalent to a typical AAA new release is particularly noteworthy given the presence of its successors, Monster Hunter Rise (Sunbreak) and the latest entry, Monster Hunter Wilds.
The sales breakdown tells its own story:
| Title | Units Sold | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Monster Hunter: World (+ Iceborne ME) | 30 million+ | All-time Capcom best-seller |
| Monster Hunter: World - Iceborne | 16 million | As of March 2025 |
| Monster Hunter Rise | 17.1 million | Including Sunbreak |
| Monster Hunter Wilds | 11.4 million | As of March 31, 2026 |
Wilds struggles to keep pace
While Monster Hunter Rise has reached 17.1 million units, and Monster Hunter Wilds, released in 2025, has hit 11 million, both have effectively entered a plateau. Monster Hunter Rise has been outselling Wilds over the last few quarters, with Wilds sales stalling significantly.
Upon launch in early 2025, Monster Hunter Wilds sold eight million copies in three days, becoming the fastest-selling title in the franchise - but the game soon faced mixed reviews as players expressed frustration over ongoing performance issues, primarily on PC. A lack of monsters and the fact that the only Elder Dragon players had been clamouring for was added via a title update were also cited, though most of the optimization issues - the biggest barrier to entry - have since been resolved through several patches.

Ascendance is the shot at a resurgence
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance was officially revealed at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, introducing a brand-new region with sky islands and floating ruins known as the Skybound Eyrie, the return of classic elder dragons including Kushala Daora and the massive Lao-Shan Lung, new Master Rank quests, and the new Boost Bracer mechanic.
The expansion is set to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Capcom also confirmed the base game and expansion are currently in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
Monster Hunter games have a strong tradition of large-scale expansions, and Ascendance promises to bring a new campaign to Wilds just as Iceborne and Sunbreak did to World and Rise, respectively.
World is the entry point - and still a deal worth taking
World's 30 million figure is a powerful endorsement on its own. A major factor behind the game's sustained success has been its post-launch support, particularly the Iceborne expansion, which significantly extended the game's lifecycle by introducing new monsters, higher difficulty tiers, and expanded story content. With Ascendance not arriving until 2027, hunters new to the franchise have ample time to work through one of gaming's finest action RPGs before the next major chapter begins.
