Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto opened the Spotlight with the expansion, which digs into the origins of Rudy, the Royal Felyne, and the ancestors who came before him. In the side story, Rudy comes face to face with Navirou, the legendary Felyne who once saved the world in the original Monster Hunter Stories, and players take on the Elder Dragon Nergigante along the way. Nergigante cannot become a Monstie for the player's party.
The DLC centres on Rudy, whose family have served as Azurian Royal Palicoes for generations - one day, while accompanying the protagonist on a survey of some Egg Quartz, Rudy makes a surprising discovery.
Free Update: Royal Monsters
Alongside the paid DLC, Capcom is rolling out a free content update. Clearing the Final Battle on Hard with a completed save unlocks Royal Monster versions of almost every creature in the game - including Invasive Monsters and Calamitous Elder Dragons - giving players a tougher endgame challenge across the field.

What Else Capcom Announced
The Rudy expansion was not the only news out of the Spotlight. Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen launches October 9, 2026 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2, introducing Norgan - a snow-covered northern region - and centering on a character named Eir who is hunting the Fallen Dragon. The expansion standalone is priced at $29.99, with a bundle pairing the base game and expansion at $49.99.
Beyond the expansion, a base game update due in late August will improve performance across all platforms, add more save slots, adjust the Dragonsplague condition, and bump weapon skill slots from four to six.
Director Satoru Nihei also brought Onimusha: Way of the Sword to the show with a new boss reveal - a fast, winged Genma named Dohatsu-ten - with the swordplay action game launching September 25, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC.
Bottom Line
The Rudy DLC landing the same day as the Spotlight - rather than waiting until the full Autumn window - is a smart move by Capcom. Players who have already finished the main game now have an immediate reason to return, with the Royal Monster free update adding genuine endgame replay value on top. If you are sitting on the Standard Edition and enjoyed your time in Azuria, $9.99 for a full story expansion is reasonable value. Compare current prices below before buying direct.
