What Is Darwin's Paradox?
Darwin's Paradox! is a 2026 platform video game developed by ZDT Studio and published by Konami. ZDT Studio is a French independent game studio made up of around 20 passionate creators, bringing together talents from video games, cinema, and animation.
Players take on the role of an octopus named Darwin, who must use his intelligence and ability to survive and make it back to the ocean. Darwin and a friend become separated when a UFO abducts them and takes them to a food corporation called "UFOOD," and Darwin must break into the company's warehouse, rescue his companion, and uncover UFOOD's secrets involving experiments, mind control, and an extraterrestrial invasion.
The game features platforming, puzzle-solving, and stealth-inspired gameplay, with players using Darwin's abilities - swimming, camouflage, infiltration, and agile movement - to overcome traps. The title also carries a cinematic presentation with a vibrant art style and a narrative that balances humor, emotion, and suspense.

Players can also expect HDR support, ray tracing, a 4K/60 FPS mode, and a performance mode with 60 FPS and dynamic 4K scaling.
Reception
The game has landed well with players since its April launch. On Steam, Darwin's Paradox! holds a "Very Positive" rating, with 89% of 491 user reviews being positive. Outlets were similarly impressed at review - DualShockers awarded it 9/10, calling it "playful, smart, and full of heart," while Noisy Pixel also gave it 9/10, calling it a title that "delivers a striking cinematic platformer."
The project was originally announced in 2022 as former Arkane Lyon studio director Romuald Capron's next game, and at the time it was reported to draw inspiration from Limbo and Little Nightmares. It was formally revealed during the February 2025 PlayStation State of Play presentation, though its release date was later delayed into 2026.
