Deltarune Chapters 6 and 7 Get Development Updates

Toby Fox's post-Chapter 5 newsletter reveals Chapter 6 is "easier to make than the others" and that Chapter 7 work may start before 2027.

Hot on the heels of the June 9, 2026 Nintendo Direct that confirmed Deltarune Chapter 5's release date, developer Toby Fox sent out an email newsletter with progress updates on both Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 - and the news is remarkably positive.

Chapter 6: Moving Faster Than Expected

Fox described Chapter 6 as "easier to make than the others," with development described as going "quite fast." The newsletter broke down the current state of each component:

Component Status
Story segments Progressing well
Gimmicks Done; more locations being added
Boss bullet patterns Still in progress
Standard encounters Mostly complete
Ancient candlelit temple corridor with stone floors and shadowy archways suggesting a mysterious dungeon adventure
Chapter 6 development is described as moving faster than previous chapters, with most systems already in place.

Story-based segments are in good shape, and the chapter's core gimmicks are already finished - though Fox noted a few more spots are being added to show them off. The boss fight and its bullet patterns are still being worked on, while regular enemy encounters are described as "mostly complete."

Chapter 7: Earlier Than You'd Think

Deltarune Chapter 7 has not yet entered full production, but Fox offered a striking signal about the pace of development. In the newsletter, he wrote that "it's not unrealistic that some staff members may start working on Chapter 7 before the end of the year." That would put a potential Chapter 7 production start well ahead of what many fans had expected given the series' historically long gaps between releases.

Fox also confirmed that another newsletter will arrive on June 24, 2026 - the same day Chapter 5 launches.

The Editorial Take

The pace Fox is describing for Chapters 6 and 7 is a meaningful shift from the multi-year waits between earlier chapters. The Chapter 5 announcement comes roughly one year after the paid release of Chapters 3 and 4 on June 5, 2025 - the fastest turnaround between Deltarune installments to date - a series that saw Chapter 1 arrive in October 2018, Chapter 2 in September 2021, and Chapters 3 and 4 in June 2025. If Chapter 6 is genuinely the easiest to produce and the team can spin up on Chapter 7 before 2027, the endgame for this series is now within realistic sight. The value proposition - one upfront purchase for all seven chapters - remains one of the strongest in indie gaming.
