Nintendo has pushed another round of backwards compatibility fixes for Switch games running on Switch 2, with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove earning the headline spot after its audio bug in certain areas is finally resolved.
The June 28, 2026 update clears seven Switch 1 titles of previously flagged issues, continues Nintendo's structured monthly cadence that has been running since the Switch 2 launched in June 2025.
What was wrong with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove
Nintendo had previously identified an issue with Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove tied to audio problems in some parts of the game. That flag has now been lifted. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove is the complete edition of Shovel Knight, the acclaimed 2D side-scrolling platformer developed by Yacht Club Games. The full game includes three campaigns - Plague of Shadows, Specter of Torment, and King of Cards - along with the multiplayer fighting game Shovel Knight Showdown. Given that the game's audio is a core part of its identity - featuring multiple soundtracks by Jake "Virt" Kaufman with additional songs by Manami Matsumae - the fix matters for anyone revisiting the collection on Nintendo's newer hardware.

Games still carrying known issues
Nintendo also updated its known-issues list alongside the fix wave. Two titles now carry active flags:
- Bar Stella Abyss (Japan only) - audio issues
- Monster Menu: The Scavenger's Cookbook - sound may not play as expected in some areas; voices may be out of sync in some areas
In addition, two titles remain fully unsupported on Switch 2: Drakkar Crew and Kiyo: Bunny Tyranny.
Nintendo's ongoing backwards compatibility programme
Since the Switch 2 released, Nintendo has been working diligently to ensure every Switch 1 game can be played on their next-gen hardware without issue. The Switch 2 launched with a sizable amount of Switch 1 games fully playable, but there were definitely some titles that had issues, or simply wouldn't fire up. As the weeks and months roll on, Nintendo continues their efforts to get Switch 1 games in tip-top shape on Switch 2.
Nintendo has maintained a public backwards compatibility tracking page since launch, flagging specific issue types - progression blockers, audio problems, performance slowdown - on a per-title basis, and pushing fixes bundled with system firmware rather than individual game patches. Early waves moved fast: a July 2025 update alone cleared over 25 games, including Portal 2, Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin, Sky: Children of the Light, and Endless Ocean Luminous.
For owners of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove who held off on replaying the series on Switch 2 specifically because of the audio flag, the June patch is the green light to dive back in. The game remains one of the most praised indie platformers of the last decade - its Steam reviews sit at 95% positive across more than 10,000 ratings. It is exactly the kind of timeless title that benefits most from Nintendo keeping its compatibility house in order.
