EA posted a notice on the PS Store confirming the shutdown date of September 11, 2026, stating that "cross-platform play, online multiplayer modes, Quick Race, Dynamic Events, leaderboards, and other features that require an online connection will no longer be available to play in Grid Legends."
Players will be left with the single-player campaign. That includes the Driven to Glory story mode, which featured live-action cutscenes and was a notable addition when the game launched in February 2022.
| Feature | After September 11 |
|---|---|
| Online multiplayer | Removed |
| Cross-platform play | Removed |
| Quick Race | Removed |
| Dynamic Events | Removed |
| Leaderboards | Removed |
| Single-player campaign | Still available |
Which platforms are affected
EA's shutdown entry specifically refers to "Grid Legends for Xbox One, Xbox X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5." The PC and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are not affected. The game launched on Nintendo Switch 2 as recently as January 29, 2026, which makes the console-specific nature of the shutdown notable.

The end of the GRID series online on consoles
What makes the move particularly striking is that it leaves all online services for every entry in the GRID series offline on PlayStation and Xbox. At the end of 2025, EA shut down the servers for Grid 2, Grid Autosport, and Grid (2019) in quick succession. Although that wasn't seen as a huge loss at the time since Grid Legends was still running, EA has now added Legends to the list, which completely ends the franchise's online component on any platform other than PC.
No new GRID game has been announced at the time of writing to replace Grid Legends.
Reception and delisting risk
Grid Legends holds a Metacritic average of 76/100 on PS5, and fared better with players, earning 4.02/5 stars on the PS Store based on over 7,000 verified votes.
EA has not confirmed if Grid Legends will be delisted at some point, but given that it will be losing a chunk of its features, a storefront removal is considered highly likely. Anyone still wanting a copy should act before that happens. The game is not currently on sale.
Our take
Online shutdowns for sub-five-year-old games are becoming a familiar pattern, and Grid Legends is the latest casualty. With no GRID sequel announced and the entire franchise now effectively dead online for console owners, players who invested in the multiplayer side of the game are left with a significantly reduced product. If online trophies, leaderboard records or Dynamic Events completions are on your list, September 11 is your hard deadline - approximately three months from now.
