Three years after its rocky debut, Crime Boss: Rockay City continues to defy expectations. Publisher 505 Games and developer INGAME Studios released Update 21 - a massive free overhaul dubbed Version 2.0 - marking both the game's second anniversary on Steam and a milestone of over one million units sold.
The update dropped on June 18, 2026, and is available for free on all platforms.
A New Story Mode Replaces the Roguelite
The headlining addition is a fully structured Story Mode. It offers a linear single-player campaign following criminal mastermind Travis Baker and his rise to power, stripping away the roguelite elements - meaning no randomisation and no permadeath - so players can work through the narrative at their own pace with both returning and newly created cinematic cutscenes.
Story Mode also incorporates storylines featured in the Gold Cup and Cagnali's Order DLCs, bringing key events together into a cohesive narrative experience. The original roguelite campaign remains available for players who prefer the high-stakes, permadeath format.
Two New Missions
Two additional missions come with the update: "Hell's Kitchen", a new high-stakes heist, and "Close Encounter", an otherworldly extraterrestrial Rockay Rumble mission providing fresh challenges for new and veteran players alike. Hell's Kitchen tasks players with preparing a fresh batch of Baker's blues inside an underground laboratory - a setup that draws clear inspiration from the Payday franchise's cooking missions.

Full Modding Tools Hit PC
As part of the update, INGAME Studios is releasing the full version of the game's modding tools for PC players, allowing the creation and development of custom characters, new weapons, original missions, and entirely new game modes. The studio plans to showcase community-created content on its YouTube channel and is exploring ways to bring the best mods to console players through curated DLC releases.
What's Next
INGAME Studios is not treating Version 2.0 as a finish line. The studio states that Version 2.0 offers the most complete version of the game to date, but urges players to "stay tuned - Travis' story isn't over yet."
That persistence has arguably rehabilitated the title's reputation. Developer INGAME Studios committed to continued support from the start, and has never wavered over the past three years. The game originally launched on the Epic Games Store on March 28, 2023, arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on June 15, 2023, before making its Steam debut on June 18, 2024.
