Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 reportedly still headed to Switch 2 in 2026

NateTheHate doubles down on his Switch 2 prediction for the GOTY RPG - even after it was a no-show at last week's Nintendo Direct.

Nintendo fans hoping to play Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Switch 2 have not been forgotten - at least according to one prominent industry insider. Leaker NateTheHate took to social media on June 15 to reassure followers that the award-winning RPG is still on its way to Nintendo's latest console, responding to a direct question with a simple: "It'll come to SW2 this year."

The update carries weight because Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was not shown during Nintendo's latest Direct, leaving fans of the game puzzled about its Switch 2 fate.

Why This Leak Matters

Nate the Hate has become a commonly trusted source within gaming communities due to the accuracy of his claims. He correctly predicted the recently revealed Ocarina of Time remake, the Star Fox 64 remake, and the date of the latest Nintendo Direct ahead of their official announcements.

Nate originally made the claim back in January on his podcast, stating that "Titles like Expedition 33 will be coming to Switch 2 in 2026." His June 15 comment is a direct reconfirmation of that earlier prediction.

It is also worth noting that Sandfall CEO Guillaume Broche did speak about the possibility of a Switch 2 port ahead of the console's release last year. More specifically, in a May 2025 interview, Sandfall Interactive CEO Guillaume Broche expressed interest in developing a Switch 2 version of the RPG, noting that the game's monumental success opened doors to fresh opportunities. However, Broche did not commit to anything concrete at the time.

Nintendo, developer Sandfall Interactive, and publisher Kepler Interactive have not announced a Switch 2 version at the time of writing.

A Record-Breaking Game With No Switch 2 Date

The stakes are high for any eventual announcement. April 24, 2026 marked the one-year anniversary of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, a game that went on to earn more GOTY awards than any other game and has now reached over 8 million copies sold, according to developer Sandfall Interactive.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is just the second game to take all five major GOTY awards, after Baldur's Gate 3 did it in 2023. At The Game Awards 2025 alone, Expedition 33 was nominated in 12 categories, making history by taking home nine awards in total.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 claimed the majority of accolades at both the Game Awards 2025 and the Game Developers Choice Awards 2026, including "Game of the Year" at both events.

The Wider Switch 2 Third-Party Picture

As a title that's already been optimised for the Xbox Series S and is playable on Valve's Steam Deck, the RPG should have a fairly smooth ride for its conversion to Nintendo Switch 2. That said, not every port has gone smoothly - the Elden Ring Switch 2 version was hit with a substantial delay, suggesting some studios are finding the process more demanding than expected.

Neither Sandfall nor its publisher Kepler Interactive have officially confirmed this port yet. But Kepler already has a Switch 2 title coming, the console exclusive Orbitals.

Given that Capcom, Square Enix, Bandai Namco, and Ubisoft have all shown that the likes of Resident Evil Requiem, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Elden Ring, and Assassin's Creed Shadows can work well on Nintendo's handheld, it doesn't feel like a stretch to assume Clair Obscur could be on the way. This is especially true now that the Switch 2 has proven to be a big success in its first year on the market, having sold 17 million consoles in seven months, exceeding expectations.

Until either Nintendo or Sandfall Interactive makes an official announcement, this remains a rumor - albeit one with a strong track record behind it.
