Following its reveal at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, Attack on Titan 3 has received its most substantial update yet. Koei Tecmo and Omega Force are bringing players back into the fight for humanity with the game, positioning it as the culmination of their Attack on Titan action series - covering the story from its Survey Corps beginnings through its dramatic conclusion. The new trailer, shown publicly at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles (July 2-5), confirms a winter 2026 launch window for Nintendo Switch 2.
The game marks the franchise's first new entry in seven years, since Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle in 2019. Koei Tecmo published the first title, Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom, in 2016.

Attack on Titan 3 is in development for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. The Nintendo Switch 2 version now has a concrete winter 2026 window attached - the first timing commitment from Koei Tecmo since the game was announced.

The July update fleshes out three pillars of the game's design. First, the signature omni-directional mobility (ODM) gear combat has been "tweaked and improved," with Titans given a wider arsenal of attacks and behaviours. A new Casual Mode opens the experience to players of all skill levels.
Second, the game introduces a squad-building system. Players create a custom Scout Regiment character - described as an engineer who leads the 104th Cadet Corps - and assemble a Survey Squad from a roster of characters with distinct skills. Missions outside the Walls involve constructing supply bases and expanding humanity's territory, adding a strategic layer to the action.
Third, the custom protagonist can interact with the full Attack on Titan cast, including Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. Building relationships with these characters unlocks new battle abilities and special cutscenes.

MAPPA-Animated Opening
One of the bigger reveals is a dedicated opening animation being produced by MAPPA, the studio behind the anime's final seasons. The hack-and-slash action game's anime roots trace back to a series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama, with its adaptation transitioning to MAPPA for its final episodes. The opening will be directed by Arifumi Imai, the action scene animator and key animator from the Attack on Titan anime.
"We're so excited to be creating the opening animation for Attack on Titan 3," the MAPPA team said. "We're working hard to create an intro movie that fans will love."
Koei Tecmo notes the animation is not included in the base game and will be added via a free update after launch - a transparency worth flagging for day-one buyers.
Context: A Series With Reach
Koei Tecmo said the Attack on Titan game series had sold more than 2.6 million units worldwide by 2021. The source manga is one of the best-selling of all time, with more than 140 million copies in circulation as of November 2023. Previous games in the series covered the story only through the anime's third season, making this the first entry built to adapt all four seasons end-to-end.
With a winter window now on the calendar and a MAPPA-produced intro in the works, Attack on Titan 3 is shaping up as a serious attempt at a definitive game adaptation of the franchise. The ODM gear overhaul and squad mechanics look encouraging - but Switch 2 owners will want to keep an eye on whether the base-game experience feels complete without the MAPPA opening at launch.
